A convenience store on Turner McCall Boulevard in Rome claims to have been robbed of about $2,500 after a smash and grab incident involving video poker.

Reports from the Rome Police Department say officers were called to Smiley Shila’s Corner late Friday night. Police claim the clerk told them the robbery took place on January 21 though no explanation was in the report about why the store personnel waited 10 days to notify law enforcement.

The clerk said the burglar broke the particle board which had covered the cash box of the store’s video poker machine. He also said video surveillance of the robbery did not exist.

There are no suspects in the case at this time.
